Purpose
To clearly define and communicate emergency evacuation procedures, primarily focused on fire-related emergencies, for everyone on the Allen University campus.

Methods of Alert
Alarm System: Triggers audible warnings
Public Address Announcements: Utilized for disseminating information quickly
Verbal Alerts: Used for immediate, on-site communication
Emergency Devices and Their Functions
Manual Pull Stations: Trigger a sequence of fire alarm responses
Smoke Detectors: Automatically activate in the presence of smoke
Sprinkler Flow Switches: Initiate various alarm responses upon operation
Public Address System (Chappelle Hall only): For emergency announcements
Verbal Announcements: For use when alarm systems fail or to supplement them
Responsibilities of Occupants
Know the locations of fire safety equipment
Familiarize yourself with exit routes
Recognize the sound of alarms
Understand alarm activation procedures
Exit the building when the alarm sounds
If You Discover a Fire
Activate the closest fire alarm pull station
Evacuate the building
Call 911
Steps for Evacuation
Shut the doors behind you
Use stairs for exit, avoid elevators
Assemble in designated areas
Faculty should bring class rosters, if possible

John Hurst Adams Gymnatorium, Arnett Hall, Chappelle Hall, and Coppin Hall: On the sidewalk outside Arnett Hall on Taylor Street
Gibbs Hall, J.S. Flipper Library, Reid Hall, and Student Activities Office: On the sidewalk beside the Old Waverly Hospital on Hampton Street
Preston W. Williams II Residence Hall and Delores W. Williams Residential Hall: The lower rear parking lot bordering the First Calvary Baptist Church rear parking lot
College for Professional Adults Building and Music Department Building: On the sidewalk beside First Calvary Baptist Church on Washington Street
Richard Allen Apartments, AU Chapel, Johnson Center for Educational Excellence, AU Bookstore, and AU Alumni Office: In the front parking lot of the University Mall on Taylor Street
Accounting for Everyone
Head count at assembly areas
Visitor identification through logs or contacts
Student rosters will be consulted
Unaccounted persons should be reported to the officer in charge
Post-Emergency Re-entry
Follow directions from fire and security personnel
Do not re-enter until given the all-clear signal
Special Needs Evacuation Procedures
Utilize a buddy system
Contact 911 with your exact location if immediate help is not available
Follow specific guidelines based on the type of impairment
