Emergency Evacuation Plan

Know your way out.

This plan explains how everyone on Allen’s campus evacuates safely, with a focus on fire emergencies. It applies to faculty, staff, students, visitors, and contractors.

If you discover a fire

  1. Pull the closest fire alarm
  2. Evacuate the building
  3. Call 911
When the Alarm Sounds

Evacuate in four steps.

  1. Exit the building as soon as the alarm sounds
  2. Shut the doors behind you
  3. Use the stairs. Do not use elevators.
  4. Go to your designated assembly area

Faculty: bring your class roster if you can, so everyone can be accounted for.

Be Ready Before You Need To

Your responsibilities.

  • Know where fire safety equipment is located
  • Learn the exit routes from buildings you use
  • Recognize the sound of the alarms
  • Understand how to activate an alarm

Alerts may come by alarm, public address announcement, or verbal alert.

Go to the assembly area for your building and stay there for a head count.

After You’re Out

Stay together. Stay safe.

  • Accounting for everyone

    • A head count is taken at each assembly area
    • Visitors are identified through logs or contacts
    • Student rosters are checked
    • Report anyone missing to the officer in charge

  • Going back inside

    • Follow directions from fire and security personnel
    • Do not re-enter until you hear the all-clear

  • Help for people with disabilities

    • Use a buddy system
    • If help isn’t immediately available, call 911 with your exact location
    • Follow the guidelines for your specific needs
