Acadeum Courses & Allen University

 Allen University is a member of the Acadeum Course-Sharing platform. This gives Allen University access to several collegiate consortia through which cross institutional enrollment in online courses is permitted up to six (6) semester credit hours per academic term.  These courses are labeled “AC (e.g., ENG 101 AC)” and are denoted for student enrollment purposes with “AC” in place of course section numbers. Each course requires approval from the Department Chair, Dean and the Registrar based on their review of information such as course descriptions, course credit hours and level, syllabi, current or projected course availability at Allen University, and faculty credentials.

Student Request for Acadeum Enrollment & Eligibility

 Students must:

1. Be enrolled full-time at Allen University during the academic term in which they are seeking to take an Acadeum course. Acadeum courses will be included in determination of full-time status);

2. Be in good academic standing. Students who are on academic probation are NOT eligible to enroll in Acadeum courses;

3. Be at the sophomore level (at least 30 sch earned) at the time of enrollment in an Acadeum course;

4. Be financially cleared at Allen University in the academic term in which the student seeks to enroll in Acadeum courses.

 Student Enrollment Actions

Students must request Acadeum course(s) via the Allen U. Acadeum Course Request – Fill out form or by visiting their faculty advisor, academic department chair, dean or other designated staff approved by the Office of the Provost.

Authorized Advisors, Department Chairs, Deans, or other designated staff can access the Acadeum portal for online courses here:  https://account.acadeum.com/.

 Communication to Students about Course Requests

After an Acadeum course request is submitted by a student or on behalf of a student, one of two e-mail communications will be sent to the student’s school email address:

1.Denied, which may require identifying/finding another course for the student

2.Approved, which gives the student key information about the course start date etc.

 Billing

Students pay Allen University’s tuition rate per credit hour for the Acadeum course; financial aid may be applied to cover the Acadeum course cost.

Students who exceed full-time enrollment due to the addition of Acadeum courses will be charged overload tuition and fee rates per the published tuition and fee schedule for Allen University.

Students are responsible for all learning material costs, including textbooks, as determined by the teaching institution. Textbooks for Acadeum courses are not included in the tuition and fees for Allen University.

 Transcribing Courses

 Allen University will use an AC section designation and a course number that is the same as the equivalent Allen University course (e.g., ENG 101) taken at a different institution will be transcribed on the Allen University transcript as ENG 101 AC.

  • Course numbers may vary from the strict Home Institution equivalent, but in all cases, they correspond to the academic level (e.g., sophomore, junior, senior, etc).

Drop/Withdrawing from a Course

Course drop dates are determined by the teaching institution and Allen University students must adhere to these dates accordingly. Allen University will not intervene in disputes regarding course drops, withdrawals, and/or refunds in cases where the student did not correspond with the teaching institution per the deadlines for each Acadeum course.

 Final Grades

Upon completion of each Acadeum course, the registrar of the teaching institution submits the final grade in the Acadeum portal. The Office of the Registrar then posts the final grade on the student’s Allen University’s transcript. This practice makes it possible for: (1) Allen University to apply financial aid to the cover the cost of the courses; (2) Students to improve GPAs by substituting consortial course grades for Ds, Fs, or Ws, and (3) Full-time students to count the courses towards degree progression.

Previously posted final grades will remain on the Allen University’s transcript, however, the Acadeum grades will be counted in the Allen University GPA and the credits hours will also be counted in the “attempted” and “earned” categories for Satisfactory Academic Progress calculations.  Acadeum courses are not considered transient or transfer courses.

Final Grade Disputes

In cases where an Allen University student is dissatisfied with the final grade issued by the teaching institution, students should first contact the teaching institution student contact (TSC). The TSC information will be in your enrollment confirmation email.

Students are responsible for adhering to course participation and policies of the teaching institution, which includes logging in on the course start date, submitting assignments, securing textbooks, and learning materials, and following through on all required actions as stated on the syllabus and by the teaching institution.
