Loan terms & a sample repayment scheduleFederal loans must be repaid with interest, even if you don’t finish your degree. For example, $20,000 borrowed at 6.52% (the 2026–27 undergraduate rate) and repaid over 10 years costs $227.30 a month, or $27,275.94 in total. Estimate your own payments with the Loan Simulator. For loans made on or after July 1, 2026, new borrowers choose between a Standard plan and the Repayment Assistance Plan, Graduate PLUS is no longer available to new borrowers, and Parent PLUS is capped at $20,000 a year.Stated here
