Does My Employer Match?

Here’s where to look.

Matching programs vary by company. Check one of these, or simply ask.

  • Your benefits portal. Look for “matching gifts,” “giving,” or “volunteer” programs.
  • Human Resources. HR can tell you if a program exists and how it works.
  • Your employee handbook. Matching gifts are often listed with other benefits.
  • Retired or a spouse? Some companies also match gifts from retirees and spouses.
  • Volunteer? Some employers give grants for hours you volunteer.

Hi,

I recently made a gift to Allen University, a private HBCU in Columbia, South Carolina (EIN 57-0341191). Does our company offer a matching gift program for gifts to colleges and universities? If so, could you share how to submit a request?

Thank you!

Every company’s program is different. Your HR team has the final word on your program’s rules.

Does it cost me anything?

No. Your employer pays the match. You simply submit the request.

How much will my employer match?

It depends on your company. Some match dollar for dollar, and some match more or less. Your HR team can tell you.

Can I request a match for a gift I already made?

Often, yes. Many companies allow requests for past gifts within a set time frame. Check your company’s deadline.

What happens after I submit?

Allen confirms your gift with your employer. Then your employer sends the matching gift to Allen.
