(Columbia, S.C.) – On Monday, March 23 at 6:30 p.m. in Chappelle Hall Gallery, Allen University will host an opening reception for its portrait exhibit, “Women who Mattered.”
The exhibit will feature women who played an integral role to Allen University. The exhibit will include historical figures, such as Dr. Sylvia Poole Swinton, an alum who served as interim president and chairperson of the Teacher Education Department at Allen University; Dr. Margaret A. Dixon, an alum and first African-American president of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP); and Flossie McClain, former registrar of Allen who penned Allen University’s alma mater.
Following the opening reception, the “Women who Mattered” Exhibit will be on display Tuesday, March 24 through Saturday, March 28 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Sunday, March 29 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Monday, March 30 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
On Tuesday, March 31, the institution will culminate its Women’s History Month events with a Women Achievers Panel at 6:30 p.m. in Chappelle Hall Auditorium.
