Types of Aid

Your Financial Aid Award may be comprised of a combination of scholarships, grants, and loans.

Scholarships and grants are free sources of aid that does not have to be repaid.  Some scholarships and grants are based on your financial need and are considered need-based aid.  Examples of need-based aid are the Pell Grant, FSEOG, South Carolina Tuition Grant, Federal Work Study and the Subsidized loan

Loans are sources of aid that have to be repaid.  Most loans are not considered need-based aid since they are not based on financial need.  Examples of loans are the Unsubsidized loan, Parent Plus Loan, Graduate Plus Loan, and alternative loans.
