Allen University’s Melita Heyward named 2021 SCICU Excellence In Teaching Award Recipient   

Melita Heyward, chair of the Allen University Business department, is the university’s 2021 SCICU Excellence in Teaching award recipient. She joined the Allen faculty in 2014 and was appointed business department chair in 2019. Heyward earned an MBA and a Bachelor of Science degree in computer information systems, both from Francis Marion University.

Allen University Joins Grow With Google

January 4, 2021 -- Google today announced sixteen new schools are joining its Grow with Google HBCU Career Readiness Program, including Allen University and South Carolina State University in South Carolina. Through a $1 million investment in the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), the program provides digital skills workshops in HBCU career centers to help Black students prepare for the workforce. Announced in October, the initiative’s goal is to reach 20,000 students during the current school year. Today’s announcement brings the number of participating schools to twenty total, and the program will be available to all HBCUs by fall 2021.

Allen University faculty earn Master Class for Teaching Online Badges

(Columbia, S.C.) – Two Allen University faculty members recently earned Master Class for Teaching Online Badges from Arizona State University Continuing and Professional Education program. Dr. Tracey Ann Carter, chair of the social sciences department, and Dr. Toni Sims Muhammad, associate vice president for academic affairs–distance education, completed a 2-week asynchronous online course on effective pedagogy in the online teaching and learning space. Participants also engaged in peer-sharing strategies to enhance online learning and experienced the course as students, which included assignments with due dates. [Read More]
